Lifeboats: Not Just Rescue Vessels

If you had been on the Titanic, would you have gone down with the ship or would you have gotten on a lifeboat? Why? We often think of lifeboats as the means by which we save ourselves. We use them to keep us alive by helping us get out of a storm, or off a sinking ship.

The Titanic lifeboats were rescued by the ship Carpathia and taken to New York. They didn’t just leave something. They went somewhere.

Over the course of my job hunt, I often talked about possibilities of taking a job that would keep me afloat until I found THE job. While one perspective is to see it as taking whatever I can get or a necessity for not getting a job, another perspective is that the temporary “lifeboat” job could be an important step toward my dream job. It may be the vessel by which I will reach my dream.

What is your lifeboat? Is it a job? A house? A relationship? What is it saving you from? Where is it taking you?

Maybe you need to get on a lifeboat. When I participated in The Journey Training, I  had the opportunity to explore what really matters to me, shift my perspective, and find courage to go after what I really want. Maybe the next Journey Training Class is your lifeboat!
